Directed task completion
Blame it on the education system. I work best when I can visualize a deadline, and realize that the penalty for being late is more onerous than the work involved. I’ll go “out on a limb” here, and postulate that this is an intentional control setting for society. We hang the carrot in front of the donkey, knowing full well that if he actually has to eat that tasteless vegetable, he might not be so willing to accept the task at hand.
