After all this time, you would think that I’d have a Plan B. After all, I drop drops, twice a day, every day. And when I ran out, before the weekend, I didn’t panic. I mean, we have pharmacies. Just down the way. Now, no emergency here. I got more drops, today. Not the quantity I had hoped, because I have been upgraded to a “senior plan”, which prohibits stockpiling. But I have drops, sufficient for the next couple of months. It’s just that I have to accept one simple fact. I need my meds.

On a quiet afternoon, I found myself sitting back and listening to a news conference. Our news conference, as a province. We are all learning to hit pause on our routine, when the health officer calls us together.

Bring in a loaner dog for the afternoon: fun for all involved. We have neighbours that will drop their pup with us, out of harm’s way, when they have to go to the city. Our dog enjoys the distraction, and I find it charming to sit on the bed and be joined by two wagging tails. Plenty of ear scratching moments, and no need to carry on a conversation. Win-win.

My travel through the tunnel continues. I’m referring to Halt And Catch Fire. Time travel, starting back at the DOS prompt.

Unexpected shift in my window on the world: suddenly, I feel like I’m a prisoner, but that the view from the window has faded to a flat gray. I just want things to get back to normal. In part, I deal poorly with noise, and living in an construction site isn’t recommended for that take on things. When the contractor, who does his best to accommodate us, showed up after dark (easy to do, now that we’re heading straight into that seasonal disorder called lack of long days), I felt trapped. In my own home. The power saw, power nailer, power everything ups the ambient noise level to something I just want to end.

Supper, this evening, can be described as comfort food. Although I didn’t actually prep things, I did babysit the big pot all afternoon. A slowly simmered masterpiece, known under a number of names: stew; boiled dinner; beef with veggies. And it was very good. Hot, like anything taken directly from the boiling pot. But, very good. Healthy. The kind of supper that is needed, just as we head into winter.

We become complacent. We figure that someone else (at a different pay grade) will do the heavy hauling. And then the whole world gets slapped. War, pestilence, pandemic. Pick your monstrous moment.

I don’t have to avoid the wind and the rain, but right now being inside makes a lot of sense. I actually watched the farmer from below start to plow his field (for winter? Who knows…) and give up just about the time it was too dark for me to watch any more. I live in an area where people have to work harder, due to weather. Farming. Fishing. All equal in the shadow of a storm.

I live in a wonderful part of the world, filled with neat places and things. But, how about the rest of the world? What do they have that would be listed as special? Fun fact: you can’t begin to realize how many things there are. Since I can’t travel, I have to rely on the testimony of others, one location at a time.
