Needing a heroine to end this Greek tragedy

This afternoon, while showing some YouTube skits to my closest friend, I had to come to grips with something; we don’t always watch the same shows. Now, why this was apparent is that the skits were from SNL (you Google it), and showcased some of the efforts of Gal (you Google her). In particular, some of the material from Wonder Woman.

Cue the Baby Shark song

For a few minutes, this morning, it seemed real. Or at least, possible. The shark surveillance system had noted that one of the larger (named) fish had left open waters and was swimming upriver to a small town in the interior of the province. Coming from a satellite tracking signal – of course it was real.

Look! New weather!

And then, it hailed. Again and again. As if the weather wizards were checking to see if we had taken notice. Around here, we usually get a short flurry. Not today.

Sudden squalls

For me, sudden gusts of wind are inconvenient. Not uncomfortable, given that I keep “genny” on standby, but resetting multiple clocks is a reminder that sometimes a good old pendulum coo-koo is capable of withstanding “squalls”. We weren’t warned about today’s moments, but the bridge recorded 135+km, and here at home I had moments in excess of 65km.

Hard copies are over-rated

Over the years, I had become complacent. After all, I didn’t need to print, often. And we had (have) more printers than would be considered as practical. When your use is occasional, and fractioned, you don’t realize that, perhaps, things are not working all that well.

Another tiny hole

Another day, another tiny hole in my arm. As contracted, the pharmacy furnished my flu shot. For free. All I had to do was provide my provincial ID and show up at the right time and place. I like my socialized medicine. And given my “advanced age”, I received the SuperShot. Left my spouse jealous, because obviously I will be “better” at any combat during the winter. I have no intention of coming into contact with the bug, now that I have the quarantine mindset, but I’m careful (and willing to take better doses of vaccine, when offered.)

Contemplating a virtual meal

On the job danger; not always evident. Right now, the federal government is trying to explain how shipyard workers came into contact with lead-based paints in vessels purchased in Europe and sent for refit. Months of contact with lead-based paints. The horror!

While the sun shines

Each morning, with the sunrise, I dream of a new day where my home energy cost drops to “net zero”. The space for solar is available. I dream; fully aware of the truth. I can’t quite afford to make the leap. All those photos of home with an array leave out the crucial detail. All of those homes belong to the rich. Now, I say this, while at the bottom of the hill there are several cottages that are off grid. And so, I continue to dream.

On the road to a renewal

How far did I have to go, to renew my contact with the world? Well, I finally have a number. 107 km. This afternoon, with no other reason than “we could”, the dog and his people loaded up the RV and went for a drive. What would be called a “Sunday drive”, except that this is Saturday.

But is it true, though?

I had to ask. What sort of rapid test might be in use among officials in government? We’ve seen that invasive swab that gets sent in through a nostril and then… no, too invasive for people in power. So, I asked Google, and learned that if you don’t get swabbed, you might get to spit. Or give up a tiny amount of blood.
