The next time you commit to the creation of a doodle image, think big. I’m unsure how people missed this one until recently (although I suspect that the lack of personal drones played a role), but in Peru the announcement of the discovery of an enormous cat drawing on a hillside has made news around the world.

When I first decided that having my own domain name might be worthwhile, it seemed like a whim. I mean, very few individuals were bothering with what seemed to be the ultimate in ego driven activity. Today, I renewed two of them, for another three years, and took note that my domain has been active (on a daily basis) for more than fifteen years. A worthwhile investment, in retrospect.

As a parent, I’m interested to see what “triggers” my children. Be it through thoughts, words or deeds (as a prayer used to direct us), children that are now adults are still subject to reacting to their environment. We’re separated by physical distance, but we still keep in touch. Interactively.

Those of you that live in an area with grocery stores that are open 24/7 should just skip to tomorrow. For the rest of us, here’s how it plays out.

Another bit of winter prep completed. My parka is now clean. Freshly laundered, as it was. The tag inside the coat explained the details: temperature, detergent choice, closing the zippers, drying. And although I don’t claim great background in coatwashing, I’m able to follow instructions. So, I did. Imagine my having that done, before the sudden onset of cold. The purchase I made (nine long years ago) will get me through another season or two.

A short newspaper story told me more than I wanted to know. There’s a new government program underway to improve internet speeds, and the applications for the extra money have to be filed by the end of December. The article even took the time to enumerate the firms involved. Great! Except that none operate in my immediate area, and none have approached me as a potential customer. I don’t need to have things written in colour – not even crayon. Once again, I have to accept that I live too far from the focus of the market. Elon, if you’re listening…

Not every question has an answer. Today, I wanted to know about the sudden infestation of flies on my dining room window, so I turned to Google. And of course, the first clue that this was not a new problem for mankind came with the reference to the “Plagues of Egypt”. Flies were mentioned, along with the note that this could be an error in translation. It could also refer to wild beasts. I know a fly when I see one, and although these were wild, beasts didn’t fit the bill of sale.

Heading through autumn, the weather can turn nasty. Today, we had the sort of day where you wouldn’t put the dog outside. I tried. He showed his obstinate side. I stayed firm, and towards evening when the wind died down, he agreed with me. Just a matter of my showing patience.

Blame it on the education system. I work best when I can visualize a deadline, and realize that the penalty for being late is more onerous than the work involved. I’ll go “out on a limb” here, and postulate that this is an intentional control setting for society. We hang the carrot in front of the donkey, knowing full well that if he actually has to eat that tasteless vegetable, he might not be so willing to accept the task at hand.
