How anonymous do you feel, in your car? I live in a rural setting, and anyone that has made the link between me and my ride knows where I park and (I guess) where I might be going. It’s an Island thing, and there’s even an appropriate reference from our own imaginary redhead books.

Another of the many “but how will I know if it works” moments; I have just plugged in a pair of technically magical devices, in the RV. Supposed to emit sound waves that I can’t hear, but that the beasts of the fields (OK, mice) will flee.

The parent job notice didn’t prepare me for the lifetime of challenges. I thought that once the Pamper Parade ended, life would get easier. Not exactly.

Outside, in front of the BBQ, I really wish the wind would come up. This gentle breeze bit brings with it some cloudy moments, involving mosquitos. Last evening, I had just enough time to fill one bird feeder with sweet water before the risk of blood loss sent me racing for shelter. I did manage to get supper done in sunlight, but I can see outside, and I won’t be going out for an evening stroll.

Finally, we’ve received some photos (not displayed here) from son #2. He’s circling the Gaspé, in an opposite direction to that taken by me in an earlier life. I believe the weather to be similar, as he had a night of wet camping. Hey, me too! In a ditch, with a flow through stream. Why waste time seeking out an established campground when nature provides the basics (including running water)?

In recording the comings and goings of people from past centuries, I have to make certain choices. Interpretive choices, for want of a better explanation. You see, on occasion, what one document has recorded does not match well with another. Think of it as colour descriptions.

There’s a different car in the driveway. From here, I can faintly smell that “new” odour, and the dog is upset. What to do? We can’t take him for a tour, until the mandatory “too recent to get extra hair on the upholstery” date passes. I guess I’ll do what comes best; point to it, and tell the dog that this is good. Like him.

It’s official; the Rogue has “air”. We didn’t care, much, in the middle of winter. Now, come to a warmer part of the year, it suddenly became crucial. Yes, you can “roll down the windows” (a throwback to earlier times and technologies), but the noise level doesn’t fit in well with a life where the radio, the phone, conversation all want our attention. Anyhow. We have air conditioning, and the dog will be grateful.

Coming awake to the sound of driving rain is reassuring. Our drought might end, and the sump system still works. Overnight, a calming 25mm of new water. No need to ration. Of course, the first worry is whether newly placed flowers might be “set free”, but that didn’t happen either. Apparently this was the tail of a tropical storm (still hurricane free).
