Trying my router on its edge

Someone gave us some trendy food for supper: a “meal in a bag”, if you will. Unfortunately, not my “bag”. Knowing what will sit well in my stomach is perhaps one of my greatest accomplishments that comes from getting older. Moving along.

Hesitant to hole-punch

My common sense (yes, I have a little) keeps me from chasing storms. If I’m in the area, I’ll watch, but there is no way that I’m going to try and catch the noise. So, while we were out this evening, playing squirrel taxi, I did keep a keen eye on the sky above me. Good chance to admire clouds in very non-intuitive patterns.

Call it Karma

Call it Karma. This week, the government of Alberta had to acknowledge their new status in the federation, as a “have not” province. With generous gifts to one industry, and then a turn down in the need for oily mud, the available cash went negative. Going forward, the influx of funds from the “rest of us” will be important. Yep, only one word applies.

And then, the wall came tumbling down

Who should you believe? For the last few years, a common rebuttal to pretty much anything newsworthy is that it is “fake news”. Doesn’t matter about the provenance. When in doubt, disparage.

In anticipation of the dreaded school restart

Not intending to start with a scandalous tale here, but I awoke with a stranger in the bed this morning. What struck me most were the blue eyes, and the tail.

Finally, a quarantine tester

Another break in the routine. This evening, we have a second dog (a loaner from a neighbour). It really isn’t just my dog that has a failure to communicate; this one also avoids conversation, and seems attentive to the possibility of food. Could it be that dogs don’t talk much?

Quarantine Bingo

Locally, with the shuttered tourist attractions, we’ve turned to a new source of entertainment: watching the regular press conferences from the Public Health office, letting the population know about how things are going. To be fair, that is not the source of our giggles. We take the pronouncements very seriously. However.

Sunscreen for the BBQ

Sunscreen, for the BBQ cover. It should be a thing.

When I purchased our (wonderful) BBQ, four years ago, I decided to include a cover. Something to protect against the wind and the rain. And it has. Unfortunately, the sun also shines, and the material seems to have developed holes. Tears, actually. Something akin to those blue jeans that are sold as pre-worn. I tried to bind the wounds, using duct tape, but I can see that the only recourse will be to order a replacement.

Imagined walls

For those of us who don’t spend much time on building construction sites, there’s a life skill that really helps: the ability to imagine how a pile of lumber will turn into complete walls and doors. I’m a rookie, I admit. Most of my worklife was spent in structures that were old when I was born.
