Three hours, outbound

posted in travel |

This is Canada; checking the weather forecast is part of our national identity. Right now, they’re getting flurries in the city, so the season changes are not according to any calendar printed off-Island. Before going off to explore distant points, I want to know that I can get home again. It’s easy to forget that important detail.

During my meeting this evening (the big meeting, the annual one), a member had anecdotal details about how our area is perceived by others. Can you say “uncharted territory”. Almost like a map of yore, with line drawings of fantastical beasts around the borders. Seems that city folk know about the countryside, because they noticed it on their way to the beach, or the Bridge. As for the rest of the Island… not so much.

It’s easy to find that amusing, when you’re as “well traveled” as me. After all, I’ve been from one end of the province to the others. And then I considered the facts; my last visit up west goes back to when my children were very young. Looks like a couple of decades ago, give or take.

And so, since nothing is scheduled for tomorrow, and if we get up early enough, we might go on an adventure. Tip-to-tip, or an approximation thereof. Remember, a lot depends on the alarm clock, which is in the bottom of a drawer, in the “no longer needed” compartment. Maybe sunrise will be enough. At least the forecast is promising. And for those that wonder just how far away we might go… three hours outbound, and three hours back. That takes care of the day, pretty much.
