The guilty pleasure of syndicated comedy

posted in health, media |

With the TV parked on a channel that runs syndicated comedy episodes, back to back to back, I’m ready to praise the team over at TBBT. With 225 episodes and counting, I haven’t seem them all. I intend to remedy that, but there’s a guilty pleasure in watching old segments of some very successful production. Jokes that can be heard again (and again) are quality.

Compare that to sports, or news, or any of the “law and order” shows that make up the schedule; none bear review. Long live good laughs (despite the laugh track).

Governments don’t talk among themselves, apparently. There’s a move afoot to extend the length of time a Canadian can spend “out of country”. Think snowbirds. Eight months, maybe. No, winter doesn’t last that long up here. Anyhow, the provinces control the regulations on health care, and so far they’re holding firm with their 182 days in a year plan. Simple math, really. The provinces don’t want to pay what it costs. So, you get to stay away beyond the time when you lose your health coverage, and nobody cares? Actually, the trigger is that the Americans are considering allowing certain visitors to stay a bit longer (we spend lots of money). And if you can find an American insurer that will take their share of that money, you are free to frolic on that southern beach.

Won’t be me, of course. No plans to make Florida my retirement destination. As for the rest of you, knock yourselves out. What you don’t require from the Canadian health system leaves more for those who stick it out through those long winters.
