Improved glass wall content

posted in media, politics |

I wish my education had included more “civics”, as it used to be called. I’d like to have a better understanding of political process. Beyond the whole “vote every few years and be quiet the rest of time”, if that helps.

Watching the news from south of here, I see that a law is just a law until someone else says it isn’t. Ditto for policies. Trade, as an example. Something called the TPP was coming our way, like a bad storm, and now it probably isn’t. After all, if the big dog doesn’t want kibble for all, then there won’t be kibble. I guess. I really don’t have the requisite training to understand if that’s good or not.

The other new term which has the press in a tither is “alternative facts”. Go ahead, parse the phrase. One of the better comments came from a talking head, who said that we might as well do press conferences by Ouija board. I’m impressed!

Got back to some of my strange TV feeds (they’re not technically channels, in the traditional sense). I can choose one and then decide what I want to watch. On demand, in essence. Found an old documentary from NFB, that showed how a freight train was assembled back in my pre-school days. Watched it, at the time and place I wanted. No need for a TV guide and an alarm clock. Now that’s how my big glass wall should work.

And when the train had left the station, there were lots of music videos. Again, who and where I wanted, when.
