Group learning

posted in education, Wx |

Facebook is many things to many people (many!); for me the chance to compare notes with others that have similar interests is paramount. Conversation on steroids.

Right now, weather is a big deal (as a storm moves through), and I love getting detailed obs notes from around the province. The quality goes from anecdotal all the way to data sets from PWS (personal weather stations), as folk try to “suss out” what will happen next. Knowing not only that the winds are going to change but when is powerful (and beats going outside to check if the treetops are moving).

There are other interest sets out there: for me, access to information on historical railroads or radio systems is part of my fun. Hey, maybe I can combine the two, and consolidate. My learning curve isn’t as steep as it once was; neither is my available time. Best to find ways to get more done.

In the old days, we would have tried to find a good book to get up to speed. Now, a simple check on Wiki or Google can set the course for a new interest. Believe me.

Moving right along. I think I’m going to have to order in some more ink packs for the snazzy new printer I finally unboxed yesterday. Bought it ages ago, and then put off the installation until the need became apparent. Christmas postcards. Just sucking the blue ink right out. If I call on the fine folks at Amazon, I can have a small box of replacement juice here within days (despite the stormy weather).

Finally received the awaited propane delivery; we had used roughly one quarter of our available volume. Timely, as we had another brief power outage this afternoon.
