Time varies

posted in computing |

My bad, for ignoring the recent drop in temperature. The hose stow, which should have taken mere minutes has turned into a multi-part job, due to the ice which has formed IN the hose. Nothing serious; no pressure, but I’ll be letting the whole thing thaw overnight in order to dump the water. Next year, I’ll remember. In past, I didn’t keep the hose on a spool, so the putaway came with a simple blow-it-clear.

Today, my goal was to set up a new computer. To be fair, the job is pretty well done, except for that pesky 95Gb of data that has to get from “old” to “new”. Microsoft, in its wisdom, decided to retire the utility provided with version 7 (and 8, I guess). Now I’m back to the tried and tested method of simply copying files. All night. Right now, the “line that lies” suggests another 11 hours, but that can vary greatly (based on tides, local wildlife migration, whatever; nobody knows).

Anyhow, time is on my side. No boss hover. No phone interrogations. Just sit back and wait for the DONE flag.

Didn’t receive any personal packages today, although my new friend (I learned his name, yesterday) did bring in one small box. We greeted each other like BFF. Hey, anyone that brings stuff and doesn’t collect currency is all right! From what he told me, he spends up to twelve hours a day, driving here and there. Not something I would consider as “a fun time”, although he seems to be safe from boss hover. Or phone interrogations.

Lost another member of ELP, today.
