A stupendous show

posted in media, pets, sports |

I enjoy a really big show. With the sixteen days and nights offered up by the gathered masses in Rio, I can say that my satisfaction is at an Olympic level. Tonight, the culmination.

For once, I didn’t face the jingoistic diatribe that comes from bribed media; I allowed my tax-supported network to do the “heavy hauling”. With another four years before the next quest for gold (and silver and bronze), I might even start looking forward to the parade of nations.

So, the closing ceremonies? Altogether, calming. Lots of red and orange on the palette, and the usual blend of over the top lighting and some interpretive dance. The preview from the Japanese delegation was promising; they played to my nerdy side.

Special mention to the operators of the rain machine… Oh. It was real, and very wet. At least we had no visible slippage on the dance floor.

Some talk, here, about sleeping outside. Unless we get some of that real rain. I’ll be on standby with towels and words of encouragement.

We’re also a two dog household for the next few days. I get a kick out of chorus, when one perceives a potential danger outside (such as a truck rolling past on the highway) and the pair compete to announce the event. Silly fun. Also, the required defence of foodstuffs – eat everything, really fast, in case the other notices the bounty. It never gets old. I’ll use that as my defence against an upswing in local canine population numbers. One IS enough, thank you.
