Time to record the passage

posted in economy, history |

Another day where my only concern was getting a roast “done”. No big deal, anymore, but I did get to use a new proper pan, purchased in the hope that I’ll be less apt to spatter the oven…

It strikes me that I’m also going to have to get busy with the camera, taking the time to record the passage of son #3 here in the house. The departure to the “home grounds” is less than two months off. Not something I’m looking forward to.

And with that, the day continues. I’ve joined a group of people who want to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our receiving a degree. Seems like only yesterday, seriously. The names and faces (albeit the twenty-something versions) are clear in memory. I would like to find my list, though. Just enough to avoid inviting people who believe their anniversary falls a twelve-month or more from now.

Read an interesting article on the economics of Uber. Taxis have been around for eons, and government has figured out the taxation modalities. Now, along comes an upstart with no ties to tradition. Unfortunately for the inspired among them, taxes are inevitable, even if you don’t seem to have anything left at the end of the cycle. One source mentioned that the actual hourly wage hovers around $8, which wouldn’t justify the investment in any other profession. Uber doesn’t function in an underground economy; banks channel all received fees, and the taxman knows exactly how that works. No secrets here. It will be interesting to see how many Uber-ites are still behind the wheel, five years from now.
