The incomplete ring experience
There has to be a special place in the netherworld for people that call my phone before sunrise, and then hang up just as I make it to the receiver. No callback implied or received. I came out of a sound sleep, scrambled to get there… you can guess the rest.
We believed in the right to a snow day; after all, the schools were already in the game, and government offices were on delayed start. Sadly, private commerce puts the need to generate revenue above other aspects of lifestyle. Which leads me to my movie of the day.
I finally watched “The Big Short“. No spoilers here; I didn’t really understand what was going on. Am I an innocent in the wild kingdom of finance? Do they really treat client cash like their own private kitty, in the largest poker game of all? Sickening. I had learned that my pennies would be invested, safely, and any income generated would come back (in part) as interest payments. I know, pennies… To think that serious savings (like pension funds) are open to being flushed is wrong.
So, back to my world. The one with few pennies to waste. My new entertainment comes down to things that are within budget: watching the snow move around, and guessing how many birds will congregate around the feeder before the dog heads out to restore law and order. Right now, the crows are winning.
I’ve had a certain envy for doorways covered in snow, although I don’t know why. Today, the storm that we didn’t get last night provided a half-door worth.
