Radials prepped

posted in ham radio |

That new box with the three spools of zip cord just couldn’t wait any longer. After getting my morning coffee squared away, I brought out a good measuring tape, and then I converted a majority of the wire into equal lengths of 14 feet and squirm room. Just following the directions of the antenna people.

The ring connectors took longer than I remembered to install. Should have dug deeper into the tool box, rather than settling for makeshift toolkit of nail clippers, thumbnail and Leatherman. However, after my interest had waned sufficiently, I had my radials ready. Outside, the screw set I’d used last time around were corroded enough that I decided to head down to the hardware store and buy a couple more of those odd little sales packets containing stove screws and nuts. Tomorrow, when the sun returns, I’ll lay out a couple dozen radials and call it ready for winter.

There’s a tube of something silicone, to seal the coax entry hole. Replaces the old school putty, I guess.

I also purchased some new hooks for the dog’s outside leads. What we’ve been using, a broken snap hook on the deck, and a strand of “tie me every time” rope in front, need something easier for the cold weather season. Now, we’re ready.

Today, a new government assumed power in Ottawa. May the bells ring out, triumphant. The odd sensation of a press scrum, on TV; first time in a decade. Imagine someone answering more than two questions, previously scripted? If this is Day One, then I’m already looking forward to a return to normalcy.
