A gale of wind
Midmorning, the winds peaked at 63 kph. Qualifies as gale force (barely). The rain made us more aware of things, I think. Coupled with the rain collector turning 180 degrees on the mast… Just to say that this is the best wind day for the station, ever!
Yes, I did go outside, briefly. Had to bring the bin in from the road, in case those winds moved it in front of a car, making me collaterally liable. I also took a run up to the lighthouse, out of curiosity. The “winds on the water” looked like this:
I had hoped to spot the inbound ferry, but it wasn’t meant to be. Back at the house, we’ve mounted the new spotting scope, but all we could see was a moving sea. Next week, for sure. The quality was actually better than I expected, but until we get better weather, the “what did you see” is limited to a small warning sticker on the rear of the potato harvester out in the field.
The generator guy mailed me a set of keys, except that the envelope arrived with a hole in the corner, meaning that I’m still waiting. It was duly noted, in the house, that the generator housing mimics a whale song under a southern gale.
We’ve been put on notice; there may be disguised visitors, come Saturday evening, and we should decorate and provision in consequence. We debated, briefly, making a candy run to somewhere; tomorrow, when the sun is back and we have thought this through. That huge rubber rat is in a box, somewhere. Hardly want to go out and purchase another one. Just because.
