Preparing for hungry hordes
On the eve of the eve, the question had to be asked: How can we attract more visitors to our door, to receive gifts of candy? Last year, we failed miserably and had to eat all the candy ourselves…
We have decided to “up the game”. After consultation with a local expert (she has kids) and relying upon census extractions (even though based on a flawed, voluntary long form), we know more about our market population. There are about fifty people of appropriate demographic profile in our immediate area. Perhaps not close by, but we learned that “parents will drive the kids around”. A direct quote.
Off to the city. Scenic route; we’re really into fall, and the rain yesterday washed the leaves clean. Shiny, even. Spectacular scenery all the way, and of course the cameras were at home. Logical. Anyhow, after a sitdown rib and chicken meal, it was time to purchase a selection of sweets. Just in case we have a repeat of last year, we chose flavours that we would be willing to eat, if so forced. In passing, the Wally outlet has a spectacular selection of foodstuffs.
We also procured a “shepherd’s crook”; a metal stand to support a bird feeder. I guess you have to rely on whatever flies by for entertainment. And some really cheap solar lights: at .99 each the pain will feel like a minor wound, should they break during the rigours of winter. The clerk at Canny Tire warned us that this year might be as tough as the last! Buy shovels!
