Ten times as many strings
I believe in the art of vaccination. Even when the “best guess” doesn’t target the virus (like last year), the placebo effect was sufficient to keep me healthy. Seriously, I think that the public health campaign to keep me armoured against illness deserves my support, and for the last who knows how many years, I’ve lined up to receive my “shot”. A new place does not mean an exception.
And so, after lunch, we headed down to the local hospital to join the queue. Which there wasn’t… either other people don’t believe, or we were just too early. Our waiting time amounted to zero, and the provincial requirement to pay $7 as a token was just that; a plastic fiver and a toonie. Great deal.
Part of our adjustment to winter is the recognition that tourist season really does end. We’re outliers. Or newbies. We don’t have to return to another place, finally. Still, the infrastructure shrinks; seeing the tourist information bureau not only shuttered but empty of the traditional racks of brochures caused some discomfort. We decided to attack on the only remaining front, and I settled in at the local café for a salad and mug of java. Yes, the healthy menu. No transfats. No bacon strips. Instead, a full plate of varied greens. I wonder if that will last me through a long winter.
Received my order of violin strings. Ten sets! At $1 per, I’ll accept that they don’t “sound as good” as the expensive kind at twenty times the price. I don’t “sound as good”…
