Accessorization

posted in technology |

As a collector, I like getting new gadgets. Want to make that even better for me? Get me a gadget with accessories. After all, more is more.

Just came in from a session of faucet improvement. That is, adding quick-disconnect connectors to the outside taps. And after that job was complete, I came back in and added (you guessed it) quick-disconnect connectors to the two garden hoses. As an added advantage, I can now attach the two and make something even longer and unwieldy. A chance to spend quality time untangling the whole affair after any substantial use.

I’ve looked around, and the accessory feature is there for so many of my prized belongings. A camera without lenses and filters and special brackets to attach to a tripod – what’s the use? Or my radio gear: on second thought, let’s not go there. Too many variations available. A good radio transceiver should be like Lego, allowing the user to modify and build. Speaking of which, I’m going to have to get the big antenna planted before the snow starts. Duly noted.

The weather shouldn’t interfere, short term. Although we dropped into single digits the other night, right now shorts and bare feet are the uniform of choice. Still summer, at least in spirit. That’s good, because another of the kids should be here over the weekend, getting in a brief vacation sprint. I don’t want to rain on his parade by pointing out that vacation months are probably decades away (for him). Not much of an incentive for anyone to “jump into the harness to plow a few rows”.
