Vote buying among parents?

posted in environment, politics |

Please, let the official election campaign begin. Otherwise, the party in power will spend every last cent in the bank convincing us that only they know how to care for us. Of course! Don’t let fairness, or moral values get in the way of your bid for another round at the trough. How is it that some people don’t realize the gifts bought with their own money aren’t exactly free. Today, a small donation to eligible parents of just over three billion (taxable, to boot). Pardon me, but since when did this government invent family allowance payments?

No matter; it’s beyond my control.

We met with the landscape contractor this afternoon. Prepared, with questions. And he provided fair, balanced answers to all of them. Yes, the grounds will require a financial investment. Yes, we could probably get a reduced quote from someone else. No, the work wouldn’t be done as well. This coming from a man with close to a quarter century in the business. I believe him; enough to cut  a cheque for the initial payment. We should expect to see (hear?) heavy equipment in the driveway within the fortnight, and we might have to invest in a lawn mower at the end of the summer. All good.

In Quebec City, the Quebecor group has filed an application to own a hockey team. Or, a license to print money… The cost to apply is a simple half billion dollars US. Especially painful, given that our loonie is still dropping like a wounded duck; at $0.77 USD this afternoon. It’s only a matter of time before other firms start to up the ante for valuables. Amazon?
