Avoidance of concerts

posted in music, technology |

The high season of concerts is underway. Based on the posters, I could keep my social calendar full; somebody different almost every day. And yet, I have little urge to join the throngs.

As an example, the Stones were on the Plains, a couple of evenings ago. I know, I’m no longer within striking distance, but it matters little. Somehow, the odds of my surrounding myself with 100,000 strangers to hear the same songs I have on my iPod are too long to calculate. Sure, the Stones are getting a little “long in the tooth”; they may not pass this way again. More the mystery.

Locally, the big field down the way is full of fiddles. Throngs (no, not 100,000, but still a good gang) are bobbin’ and weavin’ to the jigs and reels. Not me. I hate the whole idea of trying to break free at the end of the show and get on the highway. Worse than church (albeit, the fiddle is akin to a religion). I’ll find a quiet corner, and remember the tunes I’ve heard before. With the names of those tunes available.

We’re only halfway through July; there are weeks and weeks of public presentation ahead. Maybe I’ll go (and maybe lightning will strike). Speaking of random electricity, I watched a few good videos about installing a “whole house surge suppressor”. Now I want one; just in case. Sure hate to lose my stuff to an invisible force. Should the generator guy ever drop by, I’ll get his advice, and see if he’ll throw the hookup while he’s doing other stuff in the big panel downstairs. After all, he know what will kill.
