The list, not The List

posted in economy, food |

Unsure about an arrival? Wait and see; if nobody knocks at the door, assume that another day would be better, and then head off to do other things. Which we did. The city beckons.

I had a list. Not the same as The List, but enough to keep me distracted for an hour or two. There are bills to pay; if it takes two stops, such is life. The issue of getting coffee meant trying a new merchant, who doesn’t roast my usual, but an an alternate. Cost is not the issue…

We had to eat at some point, so a trusted café with wifi made sense. In passing, mustard can be strong enough to hurt the nose and induce tears. Amend the order, next time around.

Out to the hardware store, where the folk are friendly. In fact, I’m very impressed with their service. So many things I’d like to buy, quite apart from the things I should. Deck stain: enough said. And towel bars and shower rods and Coronation clamps and… The clerk required four attempts to ring through our order, as something in the purchase pile reset her register, again and again. We finally agreed to split the stack and pay accordingly.

My list isn’t complete; there’ll be other days. After a quick stop for dog kibbles and milk, we returned home to defuse a situation involving a missing box of stuff. At least, I hope so. I had to leave, to attend my first meeting with a local community group.
