Deaden the ringing
Certain problems don’t go away, just because I’ve patiently waited for close to half a century. Serious problems; if you’re a drummer. I’m talking about reverberation, and if it has never caused you to lose sleep then move along. Nothing to hear, here.
There. Now that my audience is more concentrated, I’ll continue. When you strike a drum, it may “ring”. A real bother, and it takes away from the musicality. My music teachers, in high school, kept a supply of carpet squares on hand, although I never did find the corresponding damaged flooring. I digress. A carefully placed piece of cheap industrial carpet generally saved the day, and if we were lucky enough to have some duct tape, the concert was safe.
Along the way I learned that reverberation drives recording engineers bonkers, and the remedies involve socks and wallets and sandbags and just about anything else that worked. Now, there are commercial products to get the sound you want.
I found several videos on YouTube, extolling the virtues of something called “moongel” (and other DIY equivalents). Drop the blob and breathe a sigh of relief.
Maybe tomorrow. That’s a veiled reference to our need for wings, in preparation for SB Sunday. It doesn’t matter that we had a couple of boxes in the freezer last year, and never ate. This year might be different. I checked, and last year’s supply is long gone. I could try making my own, but the convenience of the flash frozen kind should not be underestimated.
