Wire passages

posted in education |

Something to ponder. If a new user of an iPad had to create their proper ID account without an experienced coach close at hand… No, better to avoid that situation. Seriously, how many times should validation be necessary?

Today, one of my “to do” items had me setting up user workstations on new office furniture. Do the guys that play Ikea ever consider wires? The fancy stuff has access holes up the yin-yang, but if the wiring isn’t within the circled wagons, the fun begins. Take it from one who has been there; getting the necessary tethers to the real world through the full length floor level panels is seriously challenging.

The low black cloud cover, as seen from various bus shelters and bus seats left me wondering if today would be my first “close encounter” with a funnel cloud. I’ve been home for a couple of hours now and the sky hasn’t fallen, but…

The incredible shrinking work calendar (mine) is catching certain of my co-workers off guard. I’ve an official role of “fixer” for the myriad of day-to-day computer support questions that don’t require a real programmer. Soon, the quick answers will be harder to get; the real programmers have their own jobs to do. Getting that paper jam resolved, or receiving a quick how-to on attaching images to a new email won’t just happen any more. I’m old enough to accept that things change; others are going to learn from experience (probably how it should be, in a budget-ruled world.)

And then the snows will return.
