Lingering traces of a slimy moment
Time might help us forget many things. Unfortunately, that stain on the car seat wasn’t one of them. Back, in the heat of the moment, a slimy worm escaped and melted, leaving a visible trace behind.
Let me add detail. The worm was actually an interesting candy, but the +40C temperature in a closed car returned it to a pinkish ooze. In a parking lot, all I could do was to wipe away the larger part of the mass and cover the remainder with an available paper towel.
You can guess the rest. Cooling off, the paper and the sugar melded. No longer sticky. No longer separate from the seat cover. Time passed. Enough time that vacation ended and the car showed signs of needing an oil change. Flashing dash light, unequivocal text, guilt. The car owner made it clear; the car would not go to the service bay looking like that.
And with little time left on the counter, Google suggested that a return to simpler products could clean things up. Acetic acid… vinegar.
For the record, it works! Other than a lingering hint of “fish and chips” which should evaporate overnight, the slimy worm is no more. Household magic. I had hoped to try this solution earlier, but the three tiny pouches of liquid retained from a fast food stop would not have done the job. I needed a bowlful, along with a clean scrubber. Home stuff.
Next time around, the yummy candies will not get a front row seat for a summer day. Lesson learned. And now you know what to do, if you also get slimed.
