Cooking with gas

posted in technology, travel |

“Now we’re cooking with gas!”. Had a university prof that used this expression. I had no direct frame of reference, but it sounded like a good idea. Filed it, forgot it, until now.

The next kitchen will incorporate some changes, and a new range will likely be one. Today, we went off to town, to shop and learn. Although the natural gas (frac fruit?) hasn’t made it to my part of the world, there is the poor cousin, propane. Time to see what the local stores have for sale.

Turns out not much. We visited four different companies, and anything can be ordered. Several weeks lead time, delivery for a fee. A real range is expensive, but the consensus is that, in return, seared steaks could be part of a future diet. We shall see. If I am going to put in a generator and an explosive bullet in the back yard, I might as well have a kitchen that can make proper stir fry. Wok and roll!

The afternoon was hot enough that we opted for life under a shady tree. Dog included. Not much else to show for a whole day…

Around the campsite, some dismay. The senior residents (and support staff) hooked up the sway bars and left for another country. Hard to tell if those left behind will notice a diminished level of comfort, but we will miss them. Our village is like that.

Another WordPress update installed. Who could have imagined, when I started with this package, that I could fix “out of date” from a campground tabletop?
