Odd customs

posted in technology, travel |

After watching several episodes of a documentary that deals with life in the customs queue, I’m depressed. Based on anecdotal evidence, there are far too many truly stupid people trying to get “in”. Seriously, what are they thinking?

The trip for dog food this morning allowed me to confirm what I’ve long suspected. they DO move the bags around in the store to keep the customers guessing. I asked. The packaging also changes; today’s bag has the same dog in profile, under a different logo. The dog (at home) wasn’t fooled. He met me at the car and followed me inside, where he then took up a guard position over the new kibble. We’ve never asked him to share, so what was he thinking?

I also purchased a package of window screening. We have an air vent that has served as a nesting site for a noisy pair of grackles for several seasons. If I can find a volunteer to do the “top of the ladder” part, we’re going to wad the screening into a plug that will allow air flow while keeping the unwanted squatters away. Have to move quickly. The temperature has started to rise, which leads (inevitably) to the loss of snow cover and the return of the summer fauna. I also hope that the snow will cushion any nasty falls from the aforementioned ladder. Safety first!

Today, the city hosted a “winter triathlon” which involves skis, skates and showshoes. The part I wish they had shown was teh transistion to/from blades. I know, from getting short people ready for hockey, that you can seriously lengthen the game time.
