Resetting the reset

posted in computing |

In the same way that classical music never goes out of style, neither does classic comedy. Just spent some time catching up with Lucy Ricardo. Even if she always has some ‘splainin’ to do, she has fun in the getting there.

This was a day for redoing jobs I thought done. Got a call early this morning, asking assistance in getting the wifi back on (not here, elsewhere). I had changed the router; seems like only a day ago. Still, the SSID was not the same, which served as a good clue. When the ISP tells you to reset the modem and the router, don’t take the advice literally. That little button on the back that seems so hard to access is a design feature, not a flaw. And so, with only a coffee to provide me with calories, I headed over and reconfigured things. Good work, only a few minutes. Head home.

The other bookend called around suppertime. Similar problem. This time around, the confusing interface of Windows 8 meant that “talking things through” on the phone wouldn’t suffice. Similar outcome; a few minutes and all was “as it should be”. And I headed back to the comfort of home (and a can of pea soup, since fibre is supposed to be good for you). That’s how I ended up in the world of the Lucy.

Tried to sort through a pile of various wires this afternoon. finally gave up on the “sort” idea and simply created a new cardboard box of “for another day”.
