Cue silence
Some things take longer. Things like booting an older Mac, when one (OK, me) has to burn an image file of an older version of software, after finding a suitable DVD (dual layer) and a DVD burner (ditto on the dual). Let that run while I cooked supper (USB 2.0 is slow). Then, I had to figure out what the correct response might be when the installer wanted me to go with GUID. Huh? That choice was buried in a sub-submenu, but now the machine is formatting and installing. Slowly. Based on observations to this point, I’m not dealing with a “speedy package” here.
Watching CNN before, with ongoing reporting about yesterday’s tornado episode. OK, Oklahoma knows about this stuff (the town at the epicentre was hit in a similar fashion about fifteen years ago). Like with lightning, you can get to have a close encounter more than once. My favorite story was a happy one, where a mother and her young son managed to get out and away. Now, here’s where it turns funny. The interviewer asked THE question. “Did you thank the Lord?” Without missing a beat, she responded, “Actually, no. I’m an atheist”. Cue silence.
And on to life where I live. We (in this neighbourhood) seem to be spared from heavy weather. Things like hurricanes and tornado watching. That’s a good thing. I don’t want to share my demolished dreams with CNN. Not now, not in the future. I’m content to go with piles of snow on the front lawn, and the occasional hot spell in July. If ever I mention a desire to move to more dangerous climes, hit me (with you best shot).
