Mundane overcomes the interesting
Some weeks, the mundane overcomes the interesting. The dustbins have to go to the curb, and the paper guy comes for his monthly collect, and the laundry takes on a priority spot on the “todo” list. There’s no milk, so you have to head out in the snow storm (yes, even in mid-April, we keep our tuques and scrapers at hand). And after the last of the week’s food has been cooked and stored, and the kitchen cleared of the proof that people live here… it’s the weekend. For real. Only two days, but sometimes you have to settle for whatever is offered. That’s the mundane part.
The dog is testing us. Right now, we’ve removed the cone, and the question is out there: Will he or won’t he destitch his paws with careful incisor dexterity? No opposing thumbs on a dog; the teeth do a much better job, and serve as a defense system if needed. He even played polite with the paper guy (all part of the campaign for deconing, and we fell for it). Dogs have evolved beyond banal conversation.
While comparing new smartphones with a co-worker, my belief was confirmed; some of us don’t talk on our gadgets, or at least not enough to show statistical value. Less than 1% of the “quota” is meaningless, in a world where talk time is the selling point. And some of us don’t talk TO our phones, either. Too creepy, asking the gadget for advice.
Traditions depend on continuity, so here is the annual snow calendar. I know that someone, somewhere has been waiting. And yes, the blank space for 2010 is/was intentional… this time, three years ago, someone had stolen all the available snow. The crime went unsolved. A cold case. Old joke…
