A steadily shrinking box

posted in humour |

When the year ends (and begins) with a giggle, that’s a good thing. Here in Quebec, we have a television tradition called Bye-Bye, where a team of almost epic quality puts together a retrospective of political and journalistic humour. Some years… the harvest depends on the grape. This year, the quality is amazing. I watched it last night, and I’ll watch it again this evening. That good!

We kept the other dog overnight.  Waking up with a weight on my calf, from a honey-coloured hairball that barks and complains is part of the price. Dogs are fun. Funny. All those things. When she went home (somewhere before my first coffee of the new year), I had regrets.

There’s an open box of After 8 chocolates on the table. Steadily shrinking. By tomorrow, I’ll have to go hunting.

All the accumulated pork in the fridge miraculously changed form, this afternoon. Curried and slow cooked into something better.

I’ve been reading review of photo tripods, and the phrase that bests explains making an educated choice comes down to this. “Don’t buy one, if you aren’t going to use it. If you do buy one, don’t buy cheaply”.  My current tripod was a calculated purchase made three decades ago. Still works properly. Buying anything new would be for the “new tripod smell”, nothing else. Guess I should shop for something more useful.

I’ve also been busily reading reviews of microphones. Vocal microphones. Expensive accessories. Maybe I should learn to sing, first. And for those of you that believe that anyone can sing – it may be true, but a better microphone leaves less excuse room for what others can hear.
