Forget compromise

posted in ham radio, politics |

I shouldn’t have mentioned that the students were meeting with the government. Less than 40 hours after the start, the train has derailed. Things are back to confrontation without compromise, and we may be facing a long summer of discontent. Before a winter of discontent. Just so you know. Meanwhile, in the ROC (rest of Canada) university is winding down the academic year. Examination period ended last week, and the final marks will be posted real soon now. Life as it should be.

I’m still a couple of months away from summer (and many years away from my student status), but I remember the approach to the quiet months as a frantic scramble to find accommodation, gainful employment, a certain guarantee of social activity. I wonder what the local “class of” is looking forward to?

The Harper road show has decided that the promise to “bring the boys home from the war” wasn’t exactly a promise. More like a random thought in an otherwise closed mind. The official line is that “all options are under consideration, and the decision will be made in due time”. Hope we don’t have to make a trip to the market for more body bags. Seriously, what mirror was broken, that we’re suffering so many consecutive years of bad governance?

I’m back to learning the basics of propagation. A renewed interest in QRP and less than optimum antenna sites will do that to a ham. I’m imagining the bliss of code, under the trees near a beach. And I have this suspicion that the rest of my gang has no idea why.
