The point of the meeting was?

posted in music, politics |

Several days of rumour have given way to “the lead story on the news this evening”. As summer vacation draws to a close, if you are farsighted enough to put your money on the ticket counter in ten days time, and you enjoy the close companionship of tens of thousands, then you, too…

(wait for it…)

will be able to stand at one end of the Plains of Abraham and hear Madonna, in concert. Live, in a park, under the stars. Almost a full moon.

Pardon if I don’t show sufficient enthusiasm. I’m more of an intimate, unplugged kind of fan. And to the best of my knowledge, that is so not the Material Girl’s style. I’ll wait for the YouTube version.

We had an official staff meeting at work today. Complete with two tubs of coffee and a few platters of locally made muffins. I was the official tech, so I missed the muffins. Nevertheless. We learned, via a PowerPoint presentation, that we are all wonderful. Although there will be no staff cuts, we shouldn’t take it personally if there are cuts. We are doing a wonderful job, and we should aspire to doing an even more wonderful job. That was it. No other news. Somewhere, there is a checklist of things that senior administrators are supposed to to; information-free meetings are part of the plan.

When asked, later, about my reaction to the show, I had to take a moment to consider my response. Political correctness, and all that. My summation: I really, really want to retire before I get much older.
