My version of decking the hall
The hard hauling for the holiday is done. I’ve been to the local “flash frozen prepared food palace”, and after handing over a modest investment, we now have the necessary bits and bites needed for a family get-together.
Frozen brownies, frozen pigs-in-blankets, frozen wings, frozen potato somethings… I’ve covered the major food groups. If the oven remains available, we’ll go to bed on Christmas morning with a satisfied smile. Really. And not having to try preparing all those particulars makes the investment worth every penny. I have my price, after all.
I also made a detour by a major shopping centre this morning. Early. Still some parking available, and the upper deck wasn’t vibrating from the marching hordes. In and out in “holiday record” time. If people wonder why online shopping is growing in popularity, look no further.
My deal of the day was actually in government surplus, where I found a new turkey roasting pan for a fivespot. It helped that the price wasn’t marked, that there was no cover (never was one, from my point of view) and the clerk was working without sufficient intel. He suggested, I paid. Again, in and out in record time. I would have liked to find another wooden stool, but that wasn’t high on my list of essential purchases. Have one, from an earlier visit…
The tree has been liberated from its box-prison, and after an excessive effort to locate the inevitable burnouts among the bulbs, there is illumination. The responsibility for hanging baubles and making pretty will fall to others in the family (I hope).
