Never win if you don’t run, right?

posted in politics |

Another general election on the Island, next Monday. Another “first past the pole” model, where the chances of forming a government depend on a party’s ability to field qualified candidates in all ridings. Quite apart from the issues… which is why I remain quietly astonished to discover that there are ridings where “the other parties” didn’t even get someone nominated.

No surprise writ, either. This is the first time for fixed date elections on the Island (in my memory). So, what happened? Unless a miracle comes about, next Monday evening the Island gets more of the same. A pity.

Guess my dream of living high based on currency imbalance is over. The loonie is back to playing catchup with the greenback. Shows that governments really are there to keep the business community happy and satiated. I don’t profit from the $0.95 valuation. I work just as hard, pay just as much tax, but everything just a bit more expensive. Someone wins in this game; someone faceless. I don’t accept for a minute that the only way a Canadian product is competitive is through devaluation.

Received my information package for the next swimming pool. Wasn’t addressed to me; the last dog was more of a communicator than I had realized. Imagine; for the cost of a small automobile, I can have a personal pond with currents. Forget the shore, or the local stream. Pay for a box with a big motor at one end (along with a heating system) and pretend I’m swimming the Channel. If I’m now a member of the idle rich, I might as well opt for the indoor version.
