Snapping deadwood

posted in environment |

The premier has called on all members of the legislative assembly to show civility to one another during the upcoming session. However, though many are called…

The problem with the legislature is simple. Cats can’t be herded. In one room, you’ve decided to put [fill in the number of seats in your jurisdiction] people that a) believe they know better than anyone else, b) can’t be fired and c) are very well remunerated (compared to Joe Sixpack). Until the next writ falls, the sitting members are above reproach.

And let’s be frank: sitting quietly and minding your manners doesn’t get you much in the way of TV time or press points. The bigger the stir, the better you’ll be known when the time arrives to “renew your acquaintance” with the population. Simply put, the system is broken.

On other fronts, we’ve got our first frost warning of the new season. That’s why my yard is garden free. Too much risk of ruin from inclement weather. Oh, and veggies are really cheap at the supermarket next door. Maybe in a future existence I’ll turn all farmerish and get “my fingers dirty”, but for now it’s much easier to pay someone else.

Spent some time breaking small branches from the tree in the front yard. Dead branches. Against other evidence, the linden tree has a surfeit of growth followed by a loss of circulation. Since I hate getting beaned by falling deadwood, I periodically reach and snap. Entertainment for anyone watching, and a reminder that I should NEVER attempt to climb this particular tree.
