First steps to travel ready status

posted in travel |

I wonder, if I sit quietly outside in the darkness, if I’ll hear faint strains of his piano across the way. Sir Elton is in town, and although I won’t be in the audience I still appreciate his dropping in for a visit. It’s been a long time, Piano Man.

Hard to accept that I started listening (without really appreciating) his music before I was old enough to go out for a night on the town. Decades ago. My son made a joke about the city bus being loaded with boomers. Naturally. Drawn like moths to a flame (a candle in the rain?), the Plains will have an older crowd this evening.

The first steps towards travel have occurred. The can now sports a set of blue balls (and has a full tank of expensive gasoline, at $1.32/l). The new tent has been pitched, briefly, to allow a picket count. The kitchen boxes are closer to the door, and the sleeping bags are now stuffed into their respective stow bags. I’ll pack the car in a couple of days, but the volume is evident. No passengers allowed.

We’re under the watchful eye of the dog today, and her unexpected habit of jumping up to stand on my shoulders and chest is OK, as long as she doesn’t gain any weight. A dog that fetches AND brings the object back! Unknown quality with our historical companions. Proof that you can teach a dog to do things that are fun and useful, as long as you willingly share your ice cream.
