Inspired by sunshine

posted in computing, environment |

Finally, a sunny day! Inspirational. Proof: I started the pool and upgraded my installation of Linux.

After a weekend of sitting inside and listening to the grass grow, I took advantage of summer weather where I sat inside. No, I didn’t listen to anything other than the needs of my co-workers. Remember that, when it comes time to petition for my beatification. Miracles will surely follow.

Back to the pool. Wisely, I stored all necessary parts in the same (accessible) place, so it was merely a matter of joining and tightening to get the calming sounds of a filter and pump into our life. The timer was equally “at hand”, which means that as darkness falls, so will the noise level. That should please the neighbours. This does not mean that we have a clean system, not by any measure. The chemical nightmare is about to begin. “Pristine waters within weeks” is my motto.

On to more important things. Linux Mint 11 went gold today, and my download and burn were completed within the hour of my taking note. I even prepared a bootable USB drive, should I decide to “do” the netbook. After reading a How-to, I did a backup of my installed software list, and so getting back to a familiar place went swimmingly. I did forget to set a boot point (the first pass), but I’ve been to that tunnel end before, so the solution was hardly worth mentioning.

Linux Mint works for me. My drivers are easy to install, so the fight for wi-fi was (again) hardly worth mentioning.
