The bickering debates
Part of the democratic process requires an informed electorate. The prospective voter must, and I emphasize, must take the time to find out the issues, the proposed corrections and the future intentions. I’m doing my part, one evening at a time.
Tonight, the four selected leaders met in a controlled public forum. A debate for some; a bickering noisome waste of valuable time for another. No matter. Even though the selection was short (Green is a colour in the Canadian spectrum), I was satisfied to have a brief moment of audience with men (again, women are a part of the Canadian population) that rarely appear outside of controlled soundbites. Even the sessions before “party faithful” are controlled…
Did I hear anything new? No, but I have been reading and listening elsewhere. What is clear is that my preferences for the next government have not changed. I didn’t get a “new sense of faith”. Right now, I see Jack Layton as the least of a collected evil, but I’m only one of a hundred million plus. I’m going to follow the advice of Danny Williams and simply vote using the ABC mantra.
I’m also skipping the after-show panels, where paid talking heads will deliver their version of a show I’ve seen. I will sit in for the second chapter tomorrow, without the aid of “simultaneous translation”.
Traditions depend on continuity, so here is the annual snow calendar. I know that someone, somewhere has been waiting. And yes, the blank space for 2010 is/was intentional… this time, one year ago, someone had stolen all the available snow. The crime went unsolved.
