Going around in non-circles
Sometimes the evening is spent going around in circles. For this new year, I’m progressing; from now on, a certain amount of time and energy will be expended with the ellipse. I remember the formula from math class; now I’ll see if it means anything in the physical world.
Or maybe I’ll just watch, given the energy required to complete the assembly of a new elliptical trainer. Heavy lifting required here. It took two people with (as yet) undamaged backs to get the shipping carton out of the car and into the house. There things went into pause mode. Son #2 deboxed things before leaving for his shift in a radio studio.
I did the fancy “step around the piles of metal”, got bored and inspired, found a pair of Vise-grips in case something needed to be forced into position and then began the step-by-step assembly. Thankfully, there were only a few variations in size among the machine bolts, and the placement of parts was clear (for a change). Assembly is now complete. We can tell the temperature of our room from the control panel, and the device is much quieter than a bicycle on rollers.
Is this the answer? Do we have an alternative to sitting in front of the flat screen getting a dose of damage from gravity? I’ll keep you posted.
On the counter, we had far too many bananas, so I made cake. I haven’t tasted it (the cake) although I suspect I’ll recognize the flavour. Cake and exercise do complement each other, in some way.
