The countdown calendar is complete
It took long enough, but my Countdown to Camping calendar finally ran out of squares needing an X mark. That’s good.
Call it a change of seasons: I’ve gone from “waiting for vacation” to “on vacation”. The calendar page got flipped over, so I could post a back by date high on the wall in my cubicle where others can see it. I won’t; I will be elsewhere for at least another complete set of lunar phases. I’m not alone. The majority of our office contingent are setting forth to enjoy what little summer weather we get.
Of course, today seemed really long. I had afternoon responsibilities (waiting for a school administrator that never made the appointment), so I took care to clean my cubicle. You know, recycling old catalogues, coiling wires that had escaped custody, generally putting effort into clearing the desktop. Others appreciate such cosmetic care for the environs.
It’s hard to work, alone, on pointless tasks. I compensated by playing some tunes – fiddle music from Nat, some airs from Capercaillie; Celtic atmosphere. Even found myself doing a slow shuffle, although you’ll not catch that on the Intertubes any time soon. And since all good efforts are rewarded, I was able to make my saunter to the bus shelter without rainfall.
And now comes the hard part. I’m going to have to find and test and pack all the gear that makes camping possible. Marking the calendar wasn’t enough. I’m resolving to get the job done with due diligence. After all, the beach misses me.
