Getting what was paid for (I hope)

posted in media |

The invitation was clear:  WATCH NOW: highlights from our shows in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada. So, I did.

Amazing. Look at how quickly the PEI government managed to spend (allegedly) $750,000 without a whimper. Four days of TV fame, in a market that is much larger than the usual focus. Actually, time was compressed. The four days took only two days to produce. Good planning, what with the unsure state of the weather.

Regis and Kelly (or Kelly and Regis, depending on your view of things) came to the waterfront in Charlottetown, entertained a lot of people for not much money (oh, how the value of the dollar has changed in my own lifetime) and then caught their flight back to a larger town. Since everything is “on the net”, I watched the allotted seven minutes each evening. When they claimed it was Thursday, they were telling what my mother would call a “white lie”. Venial. In case you wonder what the dynamic duo said, check this out:  http://ruk.ca/content/regis-and-kelly-30-cue-cards

But that’s how it works in a world driven by a time space continuum designed to meet the needs of advertising. Next year, gurus of presenting my Island, why not see if there are celebrities that are a bit less, for lack of another word, abrasive. Just saying.

For those who wonder what “right” I have to complain, here it is: I’m a taxpayer! Those were my dollars that “helped to make a difference”.

The first “crackberry” has entered the local orbit. Somehow, one of the designated mail servers was able to determine that an incorrectly configured smartphone was trying to get its attention, and sent back a smarmy note with instructions on how to be less, if it pleases, offensive. Who knew that a mail server came with a protocol secretary?
