New ways to catch the rogues of the world
Just in case you wondered how that search for dangerous protesters in Toronto was going, the police have everything under control. They’ve created a Facebook page.
I was at work when the story came up on the CBC website. Police have released photos of the most wanted and unidentified. However, our corporate firewall wouldn’t let me check out the gallery of rogues, given that it requires access to a social networking site. Take that, CBC; you can’t trust system admins that easily.
Of course, at home in the evening, I checked out the various candids, but I didn’t recognize anyone. That’s good! Nothing more gratifying for a parent than seeing one of your dearly beloved in the “Wanted: Dead or Alive” section of the news. Good luck to the forces of law and order on this quest. Somehow, I don’t see your average FBer racing to “drop a dime” on anybody.
Another new laptop in the house, requiring the usual adjustments to our local network. I finally have a functional “Home Workgroup”, after erasing some mysterious hidden files that were keeping old credentials around. Now that the gang is new and improved, we’re a proper poster family for the W7 world.
I’m still dealing with an update from Microsoft that kills Outlook and IE8. Odd secondary effect, that. I’ve grown accustomed to turning back the “clock”, so after an hour or so, things were back to regular business. I know, I know… I’m chained to an Exchange account, and for now there’s only one way to read the mail. Maybe, someday, an open source alternative will emerge.
