Perhaps a few centimetres more to the left, or right?

Which mastermind thought up the concept of holding the Winter Games in British Columbia? This is Canada, the proud north where winter is inevitable, except… with only a few days to go before the first events, the trucks are running loads of snow down the mountainside, hoping to fool the rest of the world.

This evening, the news quoted a study which puts the cost of roadbuilding in the province of Quebec at 30% more than other administrative units across our broad land. The government, who hope to avoid an inquiry into a small problem with corruption, now have to come up with a plausible explanation. As I see it, there are three choices:

  • Wages are 30% higher here
  • It costs more to construct a road in French
  • There really is an issue with bid fraud

I wonder which premise will be maintained?

On Friday, I helped clear out eight offices, and this morning I helped “put things back in order”. In between, a firm installed new furniture, or as we like to say, we got hen cages. The motive was to assure that everyone had a happier, more ergonomic environment with increased privacy. I’m going to avoid passing judgement; my cubicle was shrunk months ago, and in turn each administrative unit is passing through the space evaluation.

Here’s my question, though. In my area, we have no members of “the opposite sex”. When it came time to put things in their place, we did so and got on with the game plan. In contrast, I spent today moving stuff from place to place, as “the opposite sex” checked to see if things would look/act/be better if the spacial relationships were modified. What was that all about?
