Be equipped is our motto

posted in environment |

Another day with weather that defies the camping spirit. Doesn’t matter; we’re not ready to travel yet anyhow. Just one more reason to visit another camping supply store.

This time, down into the newly gentrified city centre, where twenty years ago I walked around in the evening because I too much of a newbie to know the difference. Now that the university has converted the corset factory into fine arts studios, and the school of public administration has abandoned the second floor of a high school for a multi-million dollar campus, and the remaining space has been deroofed and condofiled… well, it feels yuppie.

MEC has set down tentpegs here. In their emporium, I can outfit myself with crampons and ropes and kayaks and silk sleeping bag liners. Or, in a more realistic salute to my budget I can buy a pair of P-38’s and some stuff sacks. Forget the $25 base for a cookstove; I have a tin pie plate that does the job “just fine, thanks”. At least, that’s how I feel.

On the culinary front, we’ve discovered another branch of “Extreme Pitas”… let there be food for the hungry shopper. I still highly recommend this franchise; the mix of feta cheese, hummus and BBQ sauce is to die for. Avoid the hot BBQ, you will die for from.
