Other than basic black

posted in environment, health |

Today was a first for me. Supper, a barbecue, prepared by the progeny (mine, not the rock band). A barbecue where the meat was not provided in our family standard of basic black.

I’ve been the grill guy for what feels like a lifetime. Combine a furnace with minimal temperature control, a penchant for “just making sure the meat is cooked properly” and too much bottled sauce guarantees that the meal will go well at funerals. Black is the colour of my true love’s supper. Etc.

Now I’ll have to find some other (note, not better) reason for the lack of colour choice. Henry Ford can no longer be blamed.

On other fronts, Radio-Canada presented a wonderful concert this evening as a tribute to Serge Fiori and his group Harmonium, which ruled the Quebec sound stage from 1974-1977. Note these dates: I was in full swing as a second-language student at that time. Like a baby, exposed to Mozart in the womb, if you will.

Harmonium rocked. They weren’t a rock band, by any stretch, but their music spoke to an entire nation. Now, with the maturity of aged wine, the songs are in re-release on a tribute album, and the concert tonight featured a collection of today’s young talent, showing the “old fella” how his music still works.
