Three points on a flat line graph

posted in Idol, politics |

Another one of those days where there are minor peaks on a graph of not much else going on. Let’s label the points, in no particular order, as the silly, the serious and the sweet. A week from now, only one will matter, but that’s the way things go.

First for the silly point. Our illustrious and industrious mayor has challenged the citizenry to do something outstanding tomorrow. At least, he seems to think the idea is outstanding, but he has a lot of those ideas and the rest of us just suffer silently. For the record, he wants us to go out tomorrow with a fistful of dollars and purchase a can of Red Bull. Not because the beverage is good, or nutritious, or healthy or anything else that would attract normal municipal leadership. He just wants to prove to the company that the city wants to host their event next year.

For the serious point, the prime minister appears to have admitted that “we can’t win this war”. So be it. Now do the right thing and bring the troops back to our side of that line in the sand. Your efforts might actually save a few lives, if you don’t waste any more time.

And now for the sweet point. American Idol held its “wild card” evening, with the intention of completing this season’s dance card. Twelve spots open, and nine already filled. The second string was brought back last evening and eight were shortlisted. Tonight, a round of “pick me; pick me” before the judges, without the aggravation of calling to vote (it doesn’t work from here, anyways). In the final minute, yet another variance in the rules, and we’ll be watching the slow erosion over the next few weeks of a “baker’s dozen”.  For the record, Tatiana will not be leading the dance.
