Oddly introspective
My mood is introspective (for those that track such things; you know who you are) and there are a plethora of “life’s little mysteries” to ponder. For starters, why is my web browser so slow this evening? The lag when I type is not normal, and “not normal” makes the geek mane rise around my floppy ears. If my fingers were pretending to do Dvorak, it might explain things, but right now I’m waiting for letters to appear. Just like with the postman, if you need an image.
How does that Facebook “friends online” gadget work? We did some scientific testing here, earlier. Yes, I could tell that son #2 was online, and he could get my attention in chat mode, but closing the browser, or surfing down the coast didn’t seem to have any effect. Is it time-based, or does it poll the user, or is there some other underlying trigger. Perhaps it is related to the degree of introspection, where the site can detect that you need a friend to be online. More research is needed.
Is there something about wires leading away from a computer, or a router, or a hole in the floor that provokes the “coil those things up and tie them together” reflex? Just as a technical aside, some wires don’t like being coiled and bound, but their defensive instincts are diminished. The only way to react is to shut down the network in the house! I’m not speaking from personal experience, you realize. I wonder how much it would cost to hide all the computer wiring in armoured conduit, with some nasty static charges attached to the pipes. Just thinking out loud.
How come we have winter for months and months and months, and the snow gets higher and higher and higher, but the snow day concept is only understood in a province that lies almost due east of here? I suggested that our transportation director tune in the weather from down there, but my idea wasn’t added to the flow chart for school closures.
