All first names here
It might be a quiet Sunday evening at home, but the living room is filled with dozens of (virtual) friends, all on a first-name basis. Therein lies the secret of our music industry. There are no strangers. Some might be eccentric, others quite ordinary when not on stage; no matter, there are no family names to remind us of genetic proximity. I’m watching the Grammys, and it has nothing to do with grandparenting.
In the words of Ed (Sullivan), it’s a really big show. Live music. Celebrities dressed down for a night on the town. Let’s see; there’s (cousin) Paul, and Stevie fronting for the (Jonas) brothers. Did you know that sweet little Mylie and sweet little Taylor are going to sing together for the very first time. At least that’s one occasion that can’t happen again.
The alumni from AI are holding their own; so far, we’ve heard from Carrie and Jordin and Jennifer and the evening is far from over. How proud their mentors must be.
How about the juxtaposition of Robert (Plant) with Allison (Krauss)? Did you know that she appeared with Nathalie, who isn’t here this evening. Prior engagement, or kids, or a life offstage. (Record album of the year! AND Album of the year! I’ve like this album since the fall of 2007.)
I just spotted Leona (Lewis), and Whitney came over earlier, a little “under the weather” as my mother used to say. Bono and his gang did a little dance just after they arrived.
It’s so hard to get people together these days. What with their cell phones (that keep ringing when they aren’t missing) and their penchant for flying hither, thither and yon, folks don’t drop in the way they used to. Maybe it’s the weather, or the dog. Anyhow, I’d glad we have this short time together. Now, time to let someone else sing a little song. How about you, Katy?
