In the absence of the political class, why bother?

posted in sports |

This is a quiet house. By design and by chosen technology. Except, we hear things that might otherwise be ignored. Like the wind. Right now, “she” is up to 70 kph, with things expected to increase as we get ready for bed.

All that I can imagine is how much worse it was, when people sailed from here to there. My guess is that the option of wrecking on a near shore was taken seriously, even though you could do nothing but reef the sails and pray. From the history books, that second option came with no assurances.

Tonight, there’s no precipitation (other than a spat of rain) to sweeten the pot. The dog doesn’t want to hang about, and the poor delivery guy from BNI looked apprehensive, in the dark. Do vans go ashore?

One of the local schools is closed for the rest of the week, for a “deep cleaning”. That’s media speak for detected cases of the virus, and it has the community on edge. They’ve cancelled a major party (one for the seniors). Makes us all wonder if we’re doing enough, with our dollar store masks and good intentions.

The US announced that they will “diplomatically abstain” from the upcoming Olympic Games. No fancy suits putting on a show, although the athletes will be there to run and jump and whatever else is required to distract the world. If the politicians aren’t interested, should anyone else be? This is, after all, a huge wave the flag festival. Changing the record for anything by .001 of a second seems like something where we could save a lot of money by staying close to home.
